As a Community Health Officer (CHO) I want to screen and categorise alcohol use so that problematic alcohol use can be identified early and appropriate intervention or referral can be initiated.

      Acceptance Criteria

      • Alcohol Use Identification screening is available within the Substance Use Screening module.
      • “Current alcohol use” is a mandatory field.
      • If “Current alcohol use” is set to Yes, the following fields become mandatory:
        • Frequency of alcohol use
        • Loss of control over drinking
        • Impact on daily functioning (health, family, work)
        • Symptoms suggestive of withdrawal
      • “CHO assessment of problematic alcohol use” is mandatory in all cases.
      • Alcohol use classification is automatically derived by the system and is read-only.
      • Alcohol use is classified as Non-problematic when:
        • There is no current alcohol use, OR
        • Alcohol use is occasional and all of the following are absent:
          • Loss of control over drinking
          • Functional impairment
          • Withdrawal symptoms
      • Alcohol use is classified as Problematic when any one of the following is present:
        • Regular or daily alcohol use
        • Loss of control over drinking
        • Impact on daily functioning
        • Symptoms suggestive of withdrawal
        • CHO clinical judgement indicates harmful use
      • System action is automatically determined based on classification:
        • Brief intervention for non-problematic alcohol use
        • Referral for problematic alcohol use
      • Upon completion of the screening, the system navigates the CHO to a mandatory decision screen.
      • The decision screen presents exactly two selectable actions:
        • “Provide Psychosocial Intervention”
        • “Initiate Referral”
      • The screening cannot be submitted if mandatory or conditionally mandatory fields are incomplete.
      • Clear validation messages are displayed for missing required fields.
